What's Your Money Mindset
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know that I talk a lot about getting comfortable with your business finances – both what you are earning and what you are spending. While this is a vital piece of your business money management, there is another aspect that is equally (and possibly more) important:
Your money mindset.
Have you heard of this term before? What I mean by money mindset is how we feel about money, either consciously or unconsciously.
Our money mindset is influenced by beliefs about money that we’ve picked up from our upbringing, society, and education. These beliefs shape our own money stories and, in turn, our overall money mindset. This mindset influences the way we approach our finances, both personally and as business owners.
Awareness is key. Once you identify what you tell yourself about money, you can work on shifting that focus to create a healthier narrative.
For example, if you work in a ‘helping’ profession, such as coaching, but have an unconscious money story that it is wrong to accept money to help someone, you may have difficulty charging an appropriate fee for your services.
We all have money stories, myself included. Identifying the ones that may be negatively affecting our relationship with money is the first step to healing them.
Awareness is key. Once you identify what you tell yourself about money, you can work on shifting that focus to create a healthier narrative.
This healthier narrative, along with good money habits and regular practices (like tracking your finances) will help you on your way to earning (and keeping) more money.
I’d love to know – does this resonate with you? Have you given any thought to how you think about money and how it relates to your business? Is this a topic you'd like to hear more about? Let me know.
